GP Liaison Unit

About the GP Liaison Unit

Barwon Health's GP Liaison Unit (GPLU) was established to assist GPs with access to hospital services and improve communication between Barwon Health and General Practice.

Located at University Hospital Geelong, the GPLU works closely with Western Victoria Primary Health Network to ensure all programs and activities meet the needs of GPs and ultimately enhance patient care.

Some of the programs include:

  • Development and implementation of referral and management guidelines for GPs which assist in Outpatient demand management
  • Creation of outpatient referral templates
  • Assist GPs in accessing hospital services
  • Facilitating communication between the hospital and GPs in the community

Telehealth

Barwon Health is committed to providing the best care to its patients as close to home as possible. Patients are now able to access appointments via telehealth video consultations – and are providing positive feedback about the benefits of care being provided closer to home.

You can refer and/or support your patients with telehealth appointments. Not set up for Telehealth? Please contact Dave Kirk, Western Victoria PHN, Digital Health Technical Support (03 5222 0800).

For more information or to find out which clinics at Barwon Health offer Telehealth click here.
