Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Traineeships and apprenticeships offer the opportunity to shape locally-delivered training which in return provides a pool of skilled applicants to draw on. They are designed to be as simple as possible and can be tailored to suit the specific needs of individual departments.

By completing an apprenticeship or traineeship, the individual learns the occupation/trade under a Training Plan. The Training Plan combines practical experience in the occupation specified on the Training Contract with structured training provided by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This results in the Apprentice/Trainee gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprenticeships and traineeships comprise a mixture of structured training supported by supervision and ‘hands on’ experience in the workplace. Apprenticeships and traineeships are recognised as an entry level for introducing new staff into the workforce. They are also a way for existing workers to gain formal recognition of any skills they have already attained and to round off these skills by undertaking structured learning.
