What is the Gold Card Total Care Program?

Australia owes a huge debt of gratitude to our Veterans and War Widows.

In recognition of Australia’s service men and women, Veterans and War Widows will have priority access to the highest quality health care available at Barwon Health.

Our aim is to give you the best care through our range of facilities while making your stay with us a comfortable and pleasant experience.

At Barwon Health, we have a dedicated Veterans' Liaison Officer who will help co-ordinate all aspects of your admission, stay and discharge.

Benefits to Gold Card holders

As a Gold Card holder, you will be able to access a number of exclusive benefits to help you on your journey to wellness. The following benefits are available to you while you are a patient at Barwon Health:

  • Priority access to hospital, rehabilitation, specialist care and home-based services
  • Free access to television, phone and newspapers
  • Free parking at Barwon Health sites
  • 24-hour medical cover and immediate access to high-level intensive care
  • Comprehensive admission and discharge planning
  • Free transport to and from Barwon Health appointments
  • Access to Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) appointed service providers
  • Occupational therapists to asses equipment and home modification needs.

What specialist care services are available to me?

Barwon Health has a range of facilities that offer access to state-of-the art, specialist treatment and diagnostic services. Below is a list of some of these services:

  • Cancer Services (The Andrew Love Cancer Centre)
  • Cardiac Services
  • Urology and Renal Services
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • Neurosciences
  • Barwon Medical Imaging
  • Stroke Services

Rehabilitation and Aged Care Services

Rehabilitation and Aged Care services are offered at the McKellar Centre in North Geelong and at Alan David Lodge in Grovedale. While at the McKellar Centre, your care will be coordinated by rehabilitation medical specialists who will work with you to help you on your journey to recovery. You can access a range of comprehensive allied health services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy, as well as hydrotherapy at the McKellar Centre.

Various residential aged care services are also available on site at the McKellar Centre and at Alan David Lodge. These services provide comprehensive nursing, therapy and lifestyle services based on your needs. The McKellar Centre also has a Palliative Care Unit and a community palliative care service for people with a terminal illness.

Helping you at home

Barwon Health is the major provider of home and community health care services. These services include district nursing, podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutritional services and a range of other home-based services to help you maintain your independence. We also link you with other providers in the region to enhance your long-term care.

Barwon Health Links Program

The Volunteer Services Links Program is a free transport service for patients who may be unable to drive or arrange other transport. The Links Program takes Gold Card holders to and from their medical appointments at Barwon Health.
