Recommendations for expectant parents, family and friends

Influenza
The influenza vaccine is recommended and is free for every pregnancy and at any stage of your pregnancy. It is the best way to protect both you and your baby from influenza. Paid vaccines available for family and friends.

Whooping Cough
Pregnant women and their partners are eligible for a free whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine.

The whooping cough vaccine is recommended between 20 and 32 weeks of every pregnancy (although it can be given up to the time of delivery). It is the best way to protect your baby against whooping cough.

All parents or guardians should be vaccinated before the baby is born if they have not received a pertussis-containing booster in the past 10 years. Paid whooping cough vaccines are available for friends and family.

New babies

Please note babies are now due for their first vaccinations at 6 weeks of age. Please book an extended appointment (two consecutive timeslots) for your first visit.   If you require further information prior to this, please ask your maternal child health nurse at your next check-up, or call us on 4215 6963 with any questions.

School vaccination

If having an immunisation in a school setting is not appropriate, or if your adolescent is home-schooled, appointments can be made at one of our community centres. Information on the secondary school program can be found here
