Main Theatre at Barwon Health provides a 24-hour service to the community across 10 Operating Theatres.

We provide not only access for Elective Surgery but also semi-urgent and emergency procedures.

The specialities include Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery,  Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Opthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery.

Nicola Rowe, scrub/scout nurse:

"Four years ago, I started my graduate year in theatre and loved it so much that I am still working in this specialty as a scrub/scout nurse. Barwon Health provides an endless source of learning resources and opportunities, which has allowed me to complete a specialist year program and postgraduate studies in theatre nursing to enhance my skills and knowledge on surgical procedures. The level of support for junior staff is second to none. My learning not only comes from my peers, but from highly skilled surgeons who explain the how and why whilst operating, which benefits my knowledge as a scrub/scout nurse by providing a deeper understanding of surgical procedures/surgical anatomy. Everyone - including nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists, and technicians - comes together to provide the best care for our patients. I work alongside an incredible team of nurses and surgeons who make coming to work enjoyable. No day is ever the same and there is always something to learn. More recently, I have been learning how to scrub for knee replacements. I have been loving the challenge!"
