Education & Training

Barwon Health is one of Victoria's busiest public teaching health services and the second-largest provider of teaching to medical students in the state, based on placement activity. The quality of teaching and workforce development at Barwon Health is key to our reputation as an employer of choice for new graduates, and those seeking a rewarding career in the health sector.

At Barwon Health we aim to provide a best practice environment for education and training which values learners and educators, and is continuously reviewed and evaluated from multiple perspectives including those of learners, educators, consumers/patients and education providers with whom we work.

Teaching health services are actively engaged in research and academic activity and have strong affiliations with education providers – for us, particularly Deakin University with its onsite medical school facilities and The Gordon.

As a teaching health service, Barwon Health provides clinical education and training to future and current workforce in our region including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. Quality learning experiences for students and staff occurs across the breadth of our Acute, Rehabilitation, Community, Aged Care, Drug and Alcohol Services, and Mental Health sites and programs.
