ICARe (Intensive Care Audit & Research)
Barwon Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 24-bed ICU with an active profile in clinical research. Admissions include patients from all medical, surgical and specialty units including cardiac surgery and number over 1,400 patients per year. Research in ICU involves all disciplines and has grown substantially over the last 10 years and our department is supported by research co-ordinators seven days per week. We have a strong commitment to observational audits to describe practice and act as a basis for new clinical trials.
We have an established multi-disciplinary research group who meets on a weekly basis to discuss the progress of current clinical trials, consider new clinical trials and provide a forum for the discussion of clinical audits and observational audits (BH Investigator Initiated and Collaborative). We are also one of the first sites to recruit patients in the TARGET study and have had strong consistent recruitment over the duration of this study.
