Cardiology - Kayla Eldridge

Background

I completed my Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Deakin University in October 2021.

I funded myself through university working in medical administration for Barwon Medical Imaging at Barwon Health, whilst also working various roles in retail.

I was lucky enough to secure a placement during COVID-19 with the Cardiology Research Unit, which later led into a part-time role as a Clinical Trials Coordinator in September 2022. I have since completed my Phlebotomy certification in February 2023 and recently joined the Department of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Management in June 2023 as a Clinical Research Coordinator.

I currently share my time between Cardiology and Anaesthetics, working on both investigator and sponsor initiated clinical trials. I’m excited to continue to advance my early career in research.

Research Focus Kayle Eldridge about me

Working as a Clinical Trials Coordinator is both exciting and challenging. I enjoy the dynamic nature of the role and the commitment to life-long learning and growth – as there’s always new studies to be working on.

Our unit specifically focuses on Cardiovascular Disease – one of the leading causes of death globally. Our contributions to research paves the way for new treatments of various cardiovascular conditions and associated risk factors, along with increasing drug affordability and accessibility, improving patient outcomes and advancements to medical knowledge.

It’s a privilege to be part of my patients’ journey throughout their clinical trial involvement, helping them to play a more active role in their health care and gain access to new treatments not readily available to the public. I also enjoy providing my patient’s with the opportunity to be part of bigger medical breakthroughs and help future patients like themselves.

My current research focus is looking into improved treatments for resistant and uncontrolled hypertension, obesity and prevention of type 2 diabetes – specifically focusing on their direct impact on the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke.
