Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research - Dr Renee Fiolet
Background
I am an early-career researcher working in a Dean’s Strategic Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Knowledge Translation at Deakin University in the QPS Barwon Health partnership.
Although I began my nursing career in paediatrics, I moved into community nursing as primary health care offers a space to work on the social determinants of health. I am a qualitative researcher who enjoys working in areas of trauma, social and emotional wellbeing, and health promotion. I also do a lot of research in the domestic and family violence space, as well as Chair a couple of Boards that provide services for /undertake research in gender-based violence.
Research Focus
I have a passion for improving equity and access in health care, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I strongly believe in de-colonising research approaches and using methods that will lead to strong community engagement.
Through qualitative research methods, I endeavour to improve the circumstances of people who have lived experience of racial, socioeconomic, gender and other disadvantage by co-creating solutions to address the barriers they face.
My passions include striving for a health care system that engages strengths-based approaches, recognises Indigenous knowledges, and is receptive to hearing from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders on how to improve their own health outcomes.
