Barwon Health researchers take out International Publishing Excellence Award

Friday, 25 January 2019

A Barwon Health and IMPACT Institute publication looking at links between diabetes and bone fracture risk has been recognised with an international publishing excellence award.

The research, from Department of Endocrinology & Diabetes and IMPACT Institute researchers Dr Kara Holloway, Professor Mark Kotowicz and Professor Julie Pasco, shows structural deterioration in bone contributes to the increase in fracture risk seen in diabetes, even when undetected by conventional bone densitometry.

As one of the Calcified Tissue International & Musculoskeletal Research Journal’s 12 most highly-cited 2018 papers in 2018-19, this award is an acknowledgement of the influence Barwon Health research has on the fight against osteoporosis.
