Dr Renée Sheedy Scholarship ceremony celebrates allied health research

Friday, 10 May 2024

Allied Health clinicians, friends and family recently celebrated the awarding of the Dr Renée Sheedy Scholarship. The scholarship fund was established in 2017 to honour the contribution Renée, pictured, a senior Neurological Physiotherapist at University Hospital Geelong, made to Barwon Health as a clinician-researcher.Dr20Renee20Sheedy BW

Renée’s son, Harry, assisted Allied Health Director Paula Harding presenting the awards and paid an eloquent tribute to Renée and the passion that underlies this award.

Last year’s recipients of the award, Catherine Williams, Physiotherapist and Allied Health Clinical Trials Lead, and Kylie Casey, Speech Therapist demonstrated how the award helped them to reach their research goals, with both recipients continuing to move forward with their projects in 2024.

Erin Parker, Social Worker, provided us with insights into her research activities since receiving the award in 2022.

Rupert Sangster, Physiotherapist, provided an astute perspective of his journey as a principal investigator for the HIPSTER trial.

Renée’s son, Harry, assisted Allied Health Director Paula Harding presenting this year's awards and paid an eloquent tribute to Renée and the passion that underlies this award.

Two scholarships were awarded this year. The Speech Pathology team, represented by on the day by Rebecca Hart and Lidia Davies, will use the award to move forward with a risk feeding policy and education program led by Speech Pathologist Chloe Brown. Beth Davidson, Allied Health Clinical Trials Co-ordinator and Dietitian, received funding to support her attendance at the World Indigenous Cancer Conference. We look forward to hearing about their progress next year.

Thank you to our speakers, everyone who attended and particularly Renée’s family for their heartfelt and enthusiastic support.
