Radiation Oncologists

A Radiation Oncologist is a medical specialist who has specific training in management of patients with cancer, in particular, involving the use of radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) as one aspect of their cancer treatment. They also have expertise in the treatment of non-malignant conditions with radiation therapy.

For your convenience, our Radiation Oncologists have consultation rooms at the following locations in addition to the Andrew Love Cancer Centre: 

 

Dr Michael Francis

MBBS, FRANZCR

Before joing Barwon Health, Michael Francis did his residency at St. Vincents Hospital in Melbourne, followed by Radiation Oncology training at Mater Hospital, Newcastle and Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney. He undertook a Breast Fellowship at Westmead Hospital, Sydney.

Special Interests areas:

  • Breast
  • Lung
  • Central nervous system malignancies (such as brain cancer)
  • Haematologic malignancies (such as lymphoma)

Dr Andrew Hui

MBBS, FRANZCR, Mmed (clin epi)

Dr Hui is a medical graduate from the University of Melbourne. He entered specialist training in Radiation Oncology in 1996 and was trained at tertiary centres in both Melbourne and Sydney.

He obtained his specialist qualification in 2000, followed by a Master of Medicine degree in 2003 from the University of Sydney.

He worked as a staff specialist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne for eight years as well as a year at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Canada before joining Barwon Health in 2010.

His sub-specialty interests include cancers of the skin, lung, head and neck and gastro-intestinal tract. Apart from English, he is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Dr Rod Lynch

BMedSc, MBBS, FRANZCR, AFRACMA

Before joining Barwon Health, Dr Rod Lynch completed his specialist training in Radiation Oncology in 1998, having trained at the Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospitals in Sydney as well as Woden Valley Hospital in Canberra.

Special interest areas:

  • Genitourinary malignancies and prostate cancer
  • Colorectal malignancies (bowel, rectum and anus)
  • Upper Gastro-intestinal malignancies (oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver)
  • Skin cancers (BCC and SCC)
  • Melanoma
  • Head and neck cancers

Dr Michelle Jalilian

MBBS, FRANZCR

Dr Michelle Jalilian is a senior radiation oncologist, has been practicing radiation oncology since 1997. She has extensive and broad experience as a radiation oncologist.

She has an interest in a broad range of cancers with special interest in the management of breast, skin and GI cancer.

Michelle is passionate about providing her patients with an exceptional standard of care.

She has long been active in research and teaching in radiation oncology.

Dr Tracie Gleisner 

MBBS, FRANZCR

Tracie grew up in regional Victoria on a dairy farm where she learnt the value of hard work.

She undertook her undergraduate studies in medicine at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, prior to gaining entry into the Radiation Oncology training program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre where she qualified (2006) and continued to serve as a Radiation Oncologist at the Bendigo site.

She has remained dedicated to offering exceptional and empathetic care to regional patients in Bendigo, Warrnambool, Ballarat and now in Geelong.  She has remained somewhat a generalist, but has expertise in the areas of lung cancer, CNS, Lower GI, and breast cancer.

She was the site director for a number of years at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Bendigo site and one of the highlights was the building and establishment of the brand new Bendigo Hospital with tireless work to have that service built as a combined and fully integrated multidisciplinary cancer service.
