The Motor Neurone Disease Clinic helps people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) to achieve the best life possible under the circumstances.
The clinic provides assessment and input by a team of health professionals, including:
- Dietitian
- Neurologist
- Occupational Therapist
- Physiotherapist
- Rehabilitation Specialist
- Respiratory Services
- Social Worker
- Specialist Care Coordinator
- Speech Pathologist
The assessment process will address a range of aspects of care including medical status, mobility, home set-up (e.g. rails, steps and bathroom set-up), occupational performance, thinking skills, communication, swallowing, respiration, nutrition, continence, social situation and emotional health. You can expect that your initial visit will take approximately 3 hours.
You will be actively involved with your healthcare team in developing your individualised care plan. The team can refer you to other services or professionals as required.

How do I access this service
To be seen in this clinic you need to be referred by your GP, another specialist doctor or your Barwon Health doctor.
We are unable to see you in our clinics without a referral.
Wait time
All requests for specialist clinic appointments are scheduled according to the patient’s clinical need. Clinicians assess whether an appointment is urgent or routine, based on information provided in the referral.
Barwon Health aims to see all ‘urgent’ referrals within 30 days. Our wait times for patients who are categorised as ‘routine’ are more variable, depending on the demand for our services.
The projected wait time listed below are only estimated timeframes for routine (non-urgent) patients.
