Primary Mental Health Partners (PMHP)

Barwon Health primary mental health services operate as a partnership with Barwon Medicare Locals. We provide psychiatric, nursing and psychological services via the following programs and services:

All services are accessed via a referral from a GP.

A range of assessment, monitoring and review, and therapeutic services are available both onsite, in general practises and in an outreach capacity where appropriate. Primary Mental Health Partners (PMHP) provide non-urgent services targeting individuals who are able to remain under the care of a GP in the community and do not need tertiary mental health services such as acute impatient care, emergency crisis assistance, mental health case management or ongoing psychiatric care.

We provide specialised group and individual psychological programs for the treatment of a wide range of mental illnesses including anxiety and depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, hoarding disorder, eating disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Our nursing services work in close collaboration with GPs and provide specialised advice for individuals with severe or ongoing psychiatric disability and monitoring and review of Clozapine treatment.

Treatment plans are discussed with consumers after initial assessment, with most programs ranging between six sessions to two years, depending on the individuals needs and nature of the therapy or service. All consumers receive copies of any psychiatric or psychological assessments. All services are publicly funded or bulk-billed through Medicare with no out of pocket expenses.
