Clozapine Program

The Barwon Health Clozapine Program provides support to people prescribed clozapine, their family or carers, GPs and pharmacists.

This program is bulk billed through Medicare with no out-of-pocket expenses, including the six monthly psychiatrist reviews.

Services offered

The clozapine program coordinator supports people with severe mental illness who are prescribed clozapine to remain in primary care, under the care of their GP. If a person is requiring more acute care appropriate referrals can be made to support this.

Services include:
- Providing training and support to GPs, pharmacists and family/carers
- Facilitating six monthly psychiatrist review clinics throughout City of Greater Geelong
- Monitoring annual tests
- Monitoring a client’s progress and coordinating appropriate services

How to access the service:
Referral is via specialist mental health pathways usually initiated whilst receiving care from an acute mental health service.
Eligibility Criteria:
- A person, who has been prescribed clozapine, is under the care of a GP who has received appropriate clozapine training and who has agreed to provide ongoing care.

What to bring

Each time you attend your six monthly psychiatrist review, please bring your current Medicare card, medication list and any recent paperwork provided by your GP regarding your clozapine treatment or other medication changes.
