Families where a parent has a mental illness (FaPMI)

The overall aim of the state-wide FaPMI strategy is to reduce the impact of parental mental illness on all family members through timely, coordinated, preventive, and supportive action.

This program has built on an initiative developed between Barwon Health Mental Health, Drugs & Alcohol Services and Barwon Child Youth and Family.

The service includes:

  • Education of mental health staff and other relevant disciplines, in areas such as family focused practice, impact of parental mental illness and drug and alcohol problems on children and appropriate referral options
  • Primary, secondary and tertiary consultation to families and workers
  • Facilitation of free peer support programs to children 9 to 12 years affected by parental mental illness, drug and alcohol issues
  • Provision of resources to workers and families, appropriate to program.

Referrals came be made directly to the FaPMI Coordinator via ph. 5222 6911, 0423 025 450 or email [email protected].
