Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B & Liver Clinic

The liver clinic welcomes referrals for patients with hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus infection. We offer assessment, education, counselling and treatment.

Direct acting antivirals are now available for treatment of Hepatitis C. Treatment duration is most commonly around 12 weeks of tablets, with a cure rate of around 95%. Side effects of direct acting antivirals are usually mild, if any.

All adults with a Medicare card are eligible for treatment of their Hepatitis C.

Our services

A physician is available for remote consultation with General Practitioners who wish to treat hepatitis C in their practice. The primary care setting is often the patients preferred place for treatment, and every effort is made to provide adequate support to General Practitioners who wish to engage in this process. The remote consultation form can be accessed here.

New referrals for patients with viral hepatitis who wish to attend liver clinic are initially seen in the nurse assessment clinic. Please bring a list of your current medications, including those taken only occasionally and over-the-counter preparations. A fibroscan will routinely be performed at this time to assess liver fibrosis. Please have only clear fluids for two hours prior to your appointment. Ultrasound and additional blood tests may be ordered and treatment information will be provided.

Patients then proceed to the physician clinic, where their treatment and management options will be discussed.
