General Medicine

The Department of General Medicine is the largest clinical department within Barwon Health, providing high-quality medical care to a diverse patient population with acute medical needs.

General Medicine comprises four medical wards across the hospital and trains interns, 50 basic physician trainees and approximately 10 advanced physician trainees.

General medicine at Barwon Health is staffed by consultant physicians many of whom are specialists in Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Geriatrics, Endocrinology, and Rheumatology. This group of physicians has a reputation for providing patient-focused medical care, along with excellent teaching and supportive mentorship to trainees.

In addition, at each stage of training, the Department of General Medicine provides training that is tailored to meet the PMCV and RACP requirements of our junior medical staff, and we offer customised training which is ideally suited to future physician practice in regional and rural areas.

We pride ourselves on providing excellent medical care for patients, we understand what patients value, and we are always seeking to improve through innovation. We follow the core values of Barwon Health with our firm commitment to respect and compassion for patients.
