Dysplasia Hip Clinic

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DHH) means the hip joint of a newborn baby is dislocated, or prone to dislocation.

All newborn babies are screened for DHH and have a routine clinical hip examination prior to discharge. Around 95 per cent of babies born with DDH can be successfully treated.

Based at the McKellar Centre, Barwon Health's Dysplasia Hip Clinic offers:

  • Screening surveillance and treatment of hip dysplasia.
  • Ultrasound performed to age of six months.
  • X-rays performed at six months and over.
  • Clubfoot - Ponseti Technique
  • Specialist developmental and orthopaedic physiotherapy

This is a non-surgical method of treatment that involves gentle manual manipulation of the foot and application of an above knee plaster cast which is changed weekly. It takes 5-6 weeks to correct the initial deformity.
