Barwon Health has a dedicated Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) team.
Barwon Health DLOs are a multi-disciplinary team that supports people with disability, their families, and carers to access services at Barwon Health.
The service has a strong focus on identifying and addressing barriers people with disability experience in accessing health services. This includes supporting people with disability to ensure their admission is planned and supported. We assist people to be linked with the appropriate teams and services across emergency, inpatient, rehabilitation, specialist clinics and community health.
What we do
- Support all people with disability, their families, and carers to access health services at Barwon Health.
- Work with the healthcare teams prior to admission to ensure safer, accessible, and more inclusive care during hospital stays and when attending specialist clinic appointments.
- Assist people with a disability to navigate the correct pathway to receive the healthcare that they require at Barwon Health.
- Help people with disability, their families and carers to find the answers to any general questions.
- Develop a Health Passport and/or About Me that contains key information in providing person-centred care.
- Assist with referrals to Primary Health Care Anaesthetics clinic for basic procedures under sedation.
