About us

At Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre, we are proud to promote one of the most comprehensive Residential Aged Care programs in Australia that values, respects and promotes individuality by partnering with our consumers.

With a range of options depending on your needs, our services provide a rounded and community-oriented approach to your wellbeing and lifestyle. Located in facilities across two sites in North Geelong and Charlemont, the McKellar Centre has more than 400 residential aged care beds. Our service includes high and low level care, aged persons' mental health, dementia specific and respite.

At each facility, a team of qualified, skilled and compassionate staff will work collaboratively with you to meet your needs and the needs of your family. Our Residential Aged Care program supports the best nurse/patient ratios in the Barwon South West region and the state, helping us achieve an above standard level of care. 

A range of specialised support staff is available, including an aged care/palliative nurse practitioner, wound nurse practitioner, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, podiatrists, social workers and lifestyle officers. With open care paths to acute services at University Hospital Geelong and rehabilitation services onsite at McKellar Centre in North Geelong, residents are able to move smoothly through the healthcare system when required.

The McKellar Centre environment is at the heart of wellbeing and lifestyle. Families and friends are always welcome in our facilities and we encourage residents to maintain social connections. The Town Square at the McKellar Centre in North Geelong is perfect for family visits with a playground, amphitheatre for entertainment and an onsite café, making it an ideal location to spend time together. Each lodge offers outdoor seating areas and indoor lounges for larger visits and special occasions.

White Cottages at McKellar Centre in North Geelong offers one and two bedroom accommodation to families living outside of the Geelong region that may, for medical reasons, need to be close by for support.

Accreditation

Barwon Health’s Residential Aged Care facilities are involved in two accreditation programs:

1. National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS).
2. The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency (ACSAA). This accreditation program is a Commonwealth Government initiative. All residential and aged care facilities need to be accredited with the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency to continue to receive ongoing government funding.

These two accreditation programs are based upon a commitment from healthcare organisations to continually improve the quality, care and services offered.
