Barwon Health and Deakin University Research Symposium

The Barwon Health and Deakin University Research Symposium will showcase the collaborative work being undertaken between these two organisations for the benefit of the Barwon community.
The Symposium, to be held in Barwon Health’s Health Education & Research Building (HERB), is free of charge and features sessions by senior clinicians and researchers that explore the innovative research currently underway addressing some of our community's most significant health challenges. Topics will include innovative strategies to address:
- The provision of surgical services to regional and remote communities;
- The rise of antimicrobial resistance;
- The delivery of patient-focused cancer services to our community;
- The rise in obesity; and
- The delivery of person centred mental health care.
Professor John Spertus, esteemed cardiologist and cardiovascular researcher from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he also serves as Clinical Director of Outcomes Research at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute is keynote speaker for the symposium. Professor Spertus is listed in the Thomson Reuters Hi-cite as ‘One of the Most Influential Scientific Minds in the World’ and the recipient of the 2018 American Heart Association Distinguished Scientist Award.
The Symposium will also feature a 'Best Paper of the Year' Award for Early Career Researchers, and Research Poster Awards in seven categories; Allied Health/Pharmacy, Basic Science, Implementation Science, Medical, Nursing, Population Health and Surgery.
All Barwon Health staff are invited and encouraged to participate in the Barwon Health and Deakin University Research Symposium.
