Cardiology - Susan Ryan
Background
Wow, looking back I’ve been in nursing for 40 years!
In 1984 I graduated from Geelong Hospital as a Division 1 nurse. Work opportunities took me to Sydney, Melbourne and abroad, returning to train as a midwife at Monash Medical Centre. I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in 1994 and my role in Clinical trials started in 1999 in the Clinical Trial Unit, at the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. The Clinical Trial Unit dealt with lots of endocrine trials, so I studied Diabetes Education in 2006. My direction changed again in 2010, when I came to work with the marvellous team in the Geelong Cardiology Research Unit.
Research Focus
The Geelong Cardiology Research Unit run trials covering all aspects of heart disease. My current trials deal with improving treatments for heart failure, hypertension, post heart attack outcomes and obesity.
We also conduct trials using different mechanical devices associated with care of patients who have heart disease.
