IMPACT - Arnie Phillips
Background
After graduating with a degree in aquatic science, I spent the first couple of years looking into the ears of fish caught by various research and commercial industries (it’s not weird…it’s how we find out their age!). After that rather unique experience, I spent 20 years in the IT industry working as an analyst, architect and strategist around Australia and the UK before finally working out what I wanted to be when I grew up.
At the tender age of 40 I returned to Uni and started on the journey towards becoming a clinical psychologist. In addition to my work with the Barwon Health / Deakin University IMPACT team, I currently work in private practice – specialising in the treatment of ASD, ADHD, as well as mood, anxiety, and sleep disorders.
Research Focus
Despite my age, I am a very (!) early-career researcher. Drawing on my past experience in the IT industry, my research focus is in relation to the design and development of digital interventions (including telehealth, smartphone apps, and web-based resources) to support and compliment traditional face-to-face psychological treatment.
