Following a competitive tender process, Colac Area Health is pleased to announce that imaging services in Colac will be provided by Barwon Health.

Commencing in mid-April, Barwon Health’s Department of Radiology (known as Barwon Medical Imaging) will be commencing services from Colac Area Health in Connor Street, to support hospital inpatients including the Colac Urgent Care Centre and community-based clinicians.

There will be a transition period as Colac Radiology-Lumus Imaging hands over to Barwon Health.

The new service will benefit the Colac community, providing enhanced access to expert imaging and reporting, with no-out-of-pocket costs for all Medicare reimbursable imaging.

The Barwon Health imaging service (BMI) in Geelong currently sees an average of 18 patients a day from Colac, many of whom will now be able to have their imaging, including X-ray, ultrasound and CT, locally rather than travelling to Geelong.

With expert radiologists and Barwon Health’s medical imaging staff working locally, the same high-quality and accessible service offered in Geelong will now be available in Colac. This will provide an integrated service with a smooth transition for any patients that may need a referral to University Hospital Geelong.
