AUSTRALIAN Clinical Labs (CL) will continue as Barwon Health’s pathology service provider, extending the 20-year partnership.
In 1998, pathology services at Barwon Health were outsourced to PathCare, a private pathology provider, which was sold to St John of God Pathology in 2004, and then to CL in 2016.
The supply of pathology services has been uninterrupted by the changes in ownership and Barwon Health is pleased to continue working in partnership with CL, according to CEO Professor Ruth Salom.
“This tender process continues the relationship with Clinical Labs in Geelong, which ensures they continue providing quality pathology services supporting our community,” she said.
“Clinical Labs is one of the largest providers of pathology services to public hospitals in Australia and is a respected pathology provider with extensive experience in delivering safe, quality care.
“Pathology is a key component in diagnosing and treating patients who present to University Hospital Geelong.
“A strong partnership with Clinical Labs is essential to ensure pathology results continue to be delivered in an efficient way, allowing us to make sound clinical decisions that are based on careful analysis and deliver the best outcome for patients.”
Clinical Labs’ Group CEO and Managing Director Melinda McGrath said they were delighted to continue their long association with Barwon Health, University Hospital Geelong, and the local community.
“After such a long and successful relationship, we are really pleased to be chosen to continue to partner with Barwon Health as its pathology provider. Pathology testing informs 70% of diagnoses and 100% of cancer diagnoses. As a national provider with a strong local focus, we are able to ensure Barwon Health and University Hospital benefit from our leading edge technologies and genetic services, backed by a superb team of pathology professionals,” Melinda said.
