Barwon Health Wins Victorian Public Healthcare Award for Specialist Dementia Care Program

Barwon Health is proud to announce that its Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP) has won the Excellence in Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services category at the 2025 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.

The program operates from a purpose built nine bed residential aged care unit at Blakiston Lodge that delivers innovative care tailored to the unique needs of each resident living with severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. The program combines evidence-based dementia care practices with a highly skilled team and a dementia-friendly environment designed to promote safety, independence, and dignity.

The program has delivered positive outcomes for residents and their families resulting in improved physical health, functional independence and quality of life.  Aligned with the latest best practice standards, Specialist Dementia Care Program is leading the way for excellence in dementia care across Victoria.
