Barwon Health to provide Palliative Care Services at Anam Cara House
Anam Cara, Barwon Health and Deakin University have been working together on a plan that will see Barwon Health provide their inpatient and community based palliative care services at Anam Cara House located on Deakin University Waurn Ponds campus.
Anam Cara was established in 2007 to support people with life limiting illnesses within the Geelong community to die with dignity, surrounded by care and compassion by providing wholistic, family-centred care. The Anam Cara House Facility was built through the generosity of donors, volunteers and local champions, as well as support from the Commonwealth and State Governments.
A new plan by the three organisations has been developed to ensure that the Geelong community, regardless of whether they hold private health insurance, can continue to receive palliative care services at Anam Cara House Geelong. The partnership honours the legacy of the Anam Cara community’s contribution and supports Barwon Health to deliver high quality family-centred care at Anam Cara House. The plan is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks. As part of the plan, Barwon Health will continue to provide world leading palliative care to the community at the purpose-built facility and Anam Cara’s legacy will continue on.
