Jigsaw Youth Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services
The Barwon Health Jigsaw Youth Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol service is an integral part of the wider Barwon Health Community Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol service.
It provides specialist mental health services to young people aged 16 to 25.
The service includes specialist early intervention for young people with or at risk of developing a serious mental health disorder and treatment services for young people with drug and alcohol and/or high prevalence disorders.
Under the auspice of the wider Barwon Health Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service, it also forms a central component of the headspace Barwon consortia and is actively involved in service development and innovation to assist in the national campaign to promote early and effective mental health and drug and alcohol interventions for young people.
Programs
Jigsaw clinicians and psychiatrists provided various treatments for young people including; generic case management activities of service linkages and housing supports, family consultation, multi-family support group for young people with psychosis, therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) etc.
Jigsaw clinicians and medical staff are also able to provide secondary consultation to other services and can also provide one-off medical reviews to GPs upon request via a written referral.
Staff
Jigsaw has a multidisciplinary team with clinicians from nursing, psychology, social work, and occupational therapy backgrounds. We have three psychiatrists, two full-time psychiatric registrars, a sexual health specialist nurse and peer workers.
Eligibility
16 - 25 years: Experiencing a severe mental illness or are at risk of developing a severe mental illness.
Referrals
Referrals for young people 0 - 25 are accepted via the Child and Youth triage service on 1300 094 187.
Referrals are accepted directly from consumers themselves, their families, or a GP. Consumers can also present for a face-to-face assessment at any of the nominated sites. To access input from a psychiatrist a GP referral is required.
