Kitchen to close for renovations

Wednesday, 31 January 2018.

Renovations at Barwon Health’s main kitchen will begin next week as part of an investment in crucial infrastructure that caters to all acute and residential sites.

The McKellar Centre-based Food Services Central Production Unit, which plates more than 3000 meals a day, will undergo a flooring and equipment upgrade between 29 January and 26 February.

Food Services Manager Scott Hughes said the works would future-proof Barwon Health’s usual plating and food preparation service, ensuring it remains on-site for many years.

“During the renovations, third-party suppliers will provide pre-packaged meals and sandwiches to satisfy the varied and complex diets, clinical requirements and known needs of patients and residents,” he said.

“The nutritional value of the external provider’s meals has been approved by our dietitians and we appreciate patience from those accustomed to our usual delivery routine and variety of meals, as this will change temporarily.

“These works will ensure our extensive food production service can continue operating on-site, helping us provide the best care for our patients.

Temporary plating locations will be set up at the Aged Care Annex at McKellar and University Hospital Geelong Cafeteria, so residents’ and patients’ meals can be co-ordinated over the four-week period.
