Diabetes Education

Learning how to manage diabetes can seem overwhelming however with the help of our Community Diabetes Educators you can continue to enjoy your life while ensuring your diabetes is well managed.

Diabetes Educators are located at the five Barwon Health community sites:
• Anglesea
• Belmont
• Corio
• Newcomb
• Torquay

When to see a Diabetes Educator:
• When you are first diagnosed with diabetes
• A change in diabetes management e.g. starting insulin or injectable diabetes medicine.
• Finding it difficult to reach your diabetes targets or goals
• At least every 12 months or more often if needed

Benefits of seeing a Diabetes Educator:
To support people with diabetes, their family and carers to gain skills and confidence to actively self-manage their diabetes to:
• Know what to do
• How to do it
• When to do it
• Recognise when to seek help
