Volunteer Patient Transport Car Driver

Tuesday, 19 December 2017

About the role:

Would you like to be part of our great volunteer car driver team transporting clients to and from their appointments?

Barwon Health Volunteer Patient Transport Service provides a range of voluntary driving services to enhance the wellbeing of Barwon Health consumers and their families. This is achieved by offering accessible transport, caring support and reducing the financial stress on people who already are disadvantaged.

Volunteers will be a vital member of the Volunteer Patient Transport team, firstly by being the driver to pick up and drop off clients from their homes and transport these clients to Barwon health facilities to attend their appointments.

Clients have life changing treatments and appointments that they need to get to and depend on Volunteer Patient transport and the excellent drivers we employ to get them there. These clients will be dropped off at Andrew Love Cancer Centre, Renal Dialysis Units, Community Health facilities, the Elective Surgery Hub, Outpatients and BMI across multiple sites plus many others.

What the volunteer can expect:

Volunteers provide direct support to clients, carers and families as part of an interdisciplinary team. The volunteer fulfils support requirements identified by clients, carers and families in consultation with members of the interdisciplinary team and the Coordinator of Volunteers.

Volunteers will provide a service picking up clients from their homes and taking them to a Barwon health site and return them home. Volunteers will work independently but with support from the programs Coordinator and Volunteer Services staff, and Barwon health site staff as needed. Drivers will drive locally in the Geelong region and branch out to areas such as Bannockburn, Anglesea, Lara and the Bellarine Peninsula.

What is the benefit to our consumers?
