About the Central Resource Unit
The Central Resource Unit (CRU) provide staffing resources twenty four hours a day seven days a week across the Acute, Aged Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation Units of Barwon Health by utilising nursing and support staff to cover planned and emergent shortfalls within the service.
About you
We are looking for staff who are highly motivated and are focused on excellence in patient centred care and have a passion for the delivery of best practice in nursing care.

To be successful for this role you will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a recognised Educational Institution / Diploma of Nursing with a recognised Educational Institution
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Ability to work a minimum of one shift per fortnight over a three month period (casual bank only)
The Permanent Pool is resourced using permanent Registered Nurses, Midwives, Endorsed Enrolled Nurses. Staff have a Part Time Contract at Barwon Health. In order to achieve a safe working environment for all, staff are recruited to three separate pools depending on expertise and past clinical experience. The nursing pools include:
- Acute Inpatient
- Inpatient Rehabilitation Centre
- Aged Care
Rostering for Permanent Pool staff is maintained across a twenty four hour roster in balanced numbers to ensure we meet patient, employee and organisational needs.
Rosters are published fortnightly for up to 6 weeks in advance, with two weeks published on the Shift Allocation System. Pool staff are required to work approximately 30% of their contracted hours as night shifts and be available to work up to 50% of weekends and a mixture of weekday and weekend shifts. The rostering system maintained through the Central Resource Unit (CRU) allows staff to provide their preferred shifts and have input into their rosters.
CRU uses an online system called ShiftMatch which offers shifts to staff according to their skills, locations and availability, allowing flexibility between their work and lifestyle. ShiftMatch provides fair and equitable allocation of shifts and uses mobile SMS technology to confirm shift location and times

The Casual Nursing Bank at Barwon Health is resourced with Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives with dual registration and Endorsed Enrolled Nurses. The units/departments who utilise bank staff include: Acute Medical, Acute Surgical, Operating Services and Theatres, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Dialysis, Community Nursing, Aged Care, Subacute Care and Mental Health.
The Casual Bank allows staff to take advantage of the opportunity to work across a range of sites and a variety of speciality bed based services which align with qualifications skills and experience without being rostered in advance. The Casual Nursing Bank staff have the ability to adjust the locations in which they wish to receive offers for, as they can tailor their ShiftMatch profile to reflect their preferences and availability.
Central Resource Nursing (CRU) have a Service Level agreement with Casual Bank staff at Barwon Health which requires them to be available for and work at least one shift per fortnight on average over 12 weeks to remain active as a Casual staff member with Barwon Health, unless they have notified CRU of an extended absence.
