Testimonials
Role: Clinical Manager – Speech Pathology
How long have you worked for Barwon Health? 2 years.
I was attracted to work at Barwon Health primarily because of the location. My family and I relocated to the beautiful Bellarine region, and I wanted to work closer to home to achieve a better work/life balance. Upon researching the health service, I was impressed with its size, range of specialties, and growth potential. The Allied Health department offered advanced practice roles comparable to those of larger metropolitan services, and I saw great future opportunities for my career here. Starting with a fixed-term contract, I became the Clinical Manager of Speech Pathology, responsible for over 40 speech pathologists across paediatrics and adults. I have been amazed by the dedication and skill of my team, and I have enjoyed contributing to wider organisational priorities, such as planning for the new women’s and children’s facilities. The best part of my role is spending the day with my team of fun, dedicated, and compassionate members, who make the job easier. Barwon Health is unique because it has a community feel despite being an extremely large health service. There are opportunities for allied health staff to work at the top of their scope, and the organisation is experiencing significant growth, making it an exciting place to work.
Role: Paediatric Speech Pathologist
How long have you worked for Barwon Health? 12 years.
I was initially drawn to working at Barwon Health due to the various career development and training opportunities it had to offer, along with its inclusive workplace culture, flexible work arrangements, and healthy work-life balance. Since joining the organisation, my career journey has been both fascinating and fulfilling. Starting as a paediatric speech pathologist, I gained experience working with specialist clinics and developed a keen interest in infant feeding. Barwon Health has been incredibly supportive, providing me with access to specialist staff, training, and resources to develop my skills in this area. Now, I find the most enjoyable aspect of my role is collaborating with the kind, caring, and passionate colleagues at Barwon Health. I believe what sets Barwon Health apart from other healthcare services is its commitment to its values, the friendliness and respectfulness of its people, the dedication of its health professionals, its constant growth and development, and the plentiful opportunities it offers for rewarding and interesting careers.
