Meet Kate, Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer at Barwon Health
Tell us about your career so far?
I’ve been fortunate to have wide and diverse experience in my career spanning public, private and not-for-profit sectors in metro, regional and rural areas.
With a clinical foundation in peri-op services and day surgery, I took a management pathway because of my interest in leading change and innovation in organisations to optimise staff and patient experience.
Tell us about what you love about your job and working at Barwon Health?
Having amalgamated two rural health services in my previous CEO role, I have been delighted to join the Barwon Health team to lead the chief nursing directorate.
My focus is on supporting the profession of nursing at Barwon Health to grow and thrive, building the nursing workforce and developing career pathways, enhancing our university and industry relationships through research and training and supporting patient quality and safety.
Tell us about the opportunities at Barwon Health North and the walk-in service?
We are in the final stages of preparing to open a new facility at Barwon North, which will include a nurse-led, urgent care service.
This service will be led by a team of nurse practitioners supported by registered nurses who will assess and treat patients who present during the hours of 8am and 10pm.
This is an exciting opportunity for nurses who have an interest in delivering high quality patient care in a clinically autonomous environment.
