The Welcoming Process
This describes a series of events that enable new employees to learn what they need to do to meet the responsibilities of their new positions. Welcoming can start from before the commencement of employment. It can involve sending out new contract information and accompanying Employee Handbook. It can be providing ID cards, setting up system logins, invitation to appropriate training etc.
Induction
Describes the process of settling the new staff member into their team and role. This is usually done at the local level and can last for a few weeks. It will normally involve specific details and knowledge required to perform a particular job.
Orientation (Welcome me)
The face-to-face session. Employees take the information they have learned during welcoming and induction and use that knowledge during the orientation to better understand the organisation vision, purpose and culture. At this time they also make connections with their new co-workers and team members from the same and different departments. They can meet relevant staff from key areas such as salary packaging, payroll, staff activities club and The Barwon Health Foundation.
In addition to our values, career development is also guided by of the Barwon Health Leadership Capability Framework (LCF). At Barwon Health, we are all leaders. Leadership is about what you do, not just about your job title. Leadership is also about how you engage with others, how you approach your work, and how you bring all these elements together to achieve more every day. The Barwon Health Leadership Capability Framework has been designed to embed four leadership capabilities across all levels of our organisation. All our people have access to a wide range of programs, workshops and resources for professional development and personal grow.
LCF programs are readily available via our online Learning Management System (LMS) and staff are encouraged to access them anytime. This includes Mandatory Training that all staff must complete, Second level Mandatory Training mostly for clinical roles, and also Service Directed Training related to specific roles.
Regular Performance Development Reviews
Barwon Health’s Professional Development Review (PDR) Framework has been designed to meet the needs of our employees with an emphasis on improving performance and identifying learning and development opportunities. In addition, it assists with fostering and promoting a culture of innovation, quality and high performance amongst its employees whilst aligning work outcomes to meet Barwon Health’s strategic objectives and creates a high-performance culture.
Our new PDR cycle has a strong focus on ongoing feedback and recognition throughout the year. It is a series of continuous events that include the following processes and benefits:
