Patient and carer suitability

These units have no medical assistance on hand. Consequently we require that patients and their carers who stay in our units are able to manage their day independently, are mentally competent and alert, able to cook, clean and shop for themselves, able to manage medications without our assistance and able to manage their own hygiene. The accommodation units are located approximately two blocks from the ALCC, and you must be able to walk or travel from the units to ALCC without our transport assistance.

Financial assistance

The Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS) offers financial assistance for travel and accommodation for patients who travel more than 100km to our centre for treatment. The ALCC Oncology Accounts team will assist you with the necessary paperwork and at the end of the stay will send your travel claim and account for the accommodation directly to VPTAS for you.

Patients are responsible for the first night of their accommodation only and payment is required on the day of arrival. An invoice will be given when you collect your keys. Payment can be made at the Accounts Department located on level 3 of University Hospital Geelong.
