Haematologists
Haematologists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood diseases. This covers bone marrow, the immune system and blood clotting.
Associate Professor Philip Campbell (Director Cancer Services)
MB, ChB, FRCP, FRCPath, FRACP, FRCPA
Philip is a medical graduate from the University of Sheffield in the UK. Prior to his appointment at University Hospital Geelong in 2002, he completed adult physician training in internal medicine at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, before undertaking clinical and laboratory haematology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and University College Hospital, London. He established Victoria’s only regional autologous stem cell transplant service in 2003 in collaboration with the Royal Melbourne Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Service. He is an active member of both the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group.
His current clinical research interests include multicentre, collaborative national and international trials in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and multiple myeloma.
Philip was appointed Director Cancer Services in November 2017.
Dr Helen Fairweather
Dr Fairweather is an Australian trained Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist.
She began her Haematology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane before moving to Victoria to complete her training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Dr Fairweather has worked as a Clinical Haematologist at the Andrew Love Centre since 2009 where she has been involved in the management of patients with both malignant and benign haematological disorders.
She has ongoing involvement in clinical trials as well as an interest in undergraduate teaching with an appointment as an Associate Lecturer with Deakin University.
Dr Fairweather has also worked in Geelong as a Laboratory Haematologist since 2009 with St John of God Pathology and now Australian Clinical Laboratories.
Her areas of special interest include Haematological disorders in pregnancy, disorders of thrombosis and bleeding, inherited blood disorders and other acquired bone marrow disorders.
Dr Adam Friebe
MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA
Adam Friebe completed medical undergraduate training at Monash University in Melbourne. He completed his training in clinical and laboratory haematology with Geelong and Austin hospitals and St John of God Pathology. He currently works as a clinical haematologist at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre in Geelong and at Ballarat Cancer Care. He works as a laboratory haematologist with St John of God Pathology and is a senior clinical lecturer with Deakin University.
Dr David Kipp
MBBS, BMedSc, FRACP, FRCPA
David graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2002 and underwent advanced training in haematology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred. He undertook a two-year fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at The Alfred in 2011 and 2012 and started working at University Hospital Geelong as a consultant haematologist in 2013.
He looks after patients with a wide range of benign and malignant haematological conditions. His special interests include the management of acute myeloid leukaemia, allogeneic stem cell (bone marrow) transplantation and early-phase clinical trials. He is a member of the Haematology Society of Australia & New Zealand, the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, the Bone Marrow Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr Hannah Rose
MBBS (Hons), FRACP
Hannah is a medical graduate from Monash University Victoria, and trained at University Hospital Geelong and St Vincents Hospital Melbourne, before undertaking clinical and haematology training at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne and, later, University Hospital Geelong. She now works as a consultant clinical haematologist at University Hospital Geelong, managing inpatients and outpatients with haematological malignancies and disorders of thrombosis and hemostasis. She is an active member of both the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group.
Her current clinical research interests include multicentre, collaborative national and international trials in lymphoma.
Dr Sumi Ratnasingam

Dr Sumi Ratnasingam is an Australian trained haematologist, who qualified from the University of Melbourne in 2004. Sumi completed her dual haematology training in 2014 from the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH). She recently completed her two-year lymphoma fellowship at Monash Medical Centre and started working as a consultant haematologist at Andrew Love Cancer (ALCC) from 2015.
Sumi is one of the lymphoma leads at ALCC, responsible for managing the Lymphoma MDT (multi-disciplinary team meetings) and is actively involved in clinical trials. Her special interests are Lymphoma and Malignant Haematology. However, Sumi has broad experience in managing stem cell transplantation, coagulopathy, veno-thromboembolism and other non-malignant haematological disorders.
Sumi is also interested in clinical education and is currently working with the Western Victoria Primary Health Network (PHN) to develop GP-specific clinical pathways targeting various haematological disorders.
Sumi is an active member of HSANZ (The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand), ASH (American Society of Hematology), ALLG (Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group), RACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) and RCPA (The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia).
Dr David Routledge
BSc, MBChB, MSc, PGCert, MRCP UK, FRCPath UK, FRACP
Dr David Routledge is a UK trained clinical haematologist, who qualified from the University of Manchester in 2007. He completed his physicians training in Manchester, including placements at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and The Christie Hospital, the largest single site cancer centre in Europe.
Through this he developed significant experience in the management of haematological malignancies and stem cell transplantation. He also has extensive experience in the management of acquired and inherited haemoglobinopathies, obstetric haematology, red cell and coagulation disorders.
Dr Routledge is currently a consultant at University Hospital Geelong with a specialist interest in haematological malignancies and stem cell transplantation. He also works at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, providing chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation to patients with haematological malignancies in their own homes.
David has also completed a degree in pharmacology and has an avid interest in drug development, being actively involved in clinical trials. He is a member of the American Society of Haematology, Australian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, and British Society of Haematology. David has published in peer review journals and presented in his field. He has made Geelong his home, is a keen runner and Geelong Cats supporter.
