Our community’s health and wellbeing has been our core focus since 1852. The breadth of our services means we are there for our community at every stage of life.

Barwon Health’s vision is to be Australia’s leading regional health service. Through care, education and research, our aim is to be at the pinnacle of health care.

Our mission is to provide high quality healthcare services to our communities. Barwon Health was named Regional Health Service of the Year in the 2013 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.

Above all else, we care. Our dedicated staff and volunteers put our patients first in everything they do. We live our values: respect, compassion, commitment, accountability and innovation.

Today marks the start of a new chapter in the history of both Barwon Health and the Geelong Hospital.

Barwon Health has evolved and grown since the first hospital was built on this site in 1852. Since amalgamation in 1998 we have become a multi-site organisation delivering care across all stages of life in various care settings which include community health, acute care, aged care and rehabilitation and it is now time to reflect our contemporary practice.

This new chapter sees us cementing our role as a leader in research and education; we are now the second biggest provider of health industry training in Victoria and have a strong track record in research with more than 370 research publications published in the past year alone.

By changing the name of the hospital to ‘University Hospital, Geelong’ we are highlighting our role in education and training and research. The best clinical care takes place in environments of academic rigor; having an academic interface with active research and teaching enhances the spirit of scientific inquiry and helps to attract and retain the best quality staff.

By refreshing our logo we will be more reflective of how our community perceives what we do; more broadly, our logo identity is now about what we do, rather than being about the geographic area we serve.
