| The Falls and Mobility Clinic is a specialist assessment clinic for community based clients that is time limited, client focused, goal centred and interdisciplinary. It aims to prevent falls and injury, and to improve and maintain mobility for clients living in the Barwon South Western region.
The initial assessment takes place at McKellar Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) and may take up to two and a half hours. It includes a general medical assessment, a nursing review including discussion of the client's work, leisure and domestic interests, a physical assessment (including tests of balance, muscle strength and coordination using state of the art computerised equipment where indicated) and an occupational therapy home visit.
This service is available for clients who present with:
- Falls and/or high risk of falls
- Dizziness
- Mobility decline
Relative exclusions:
- Individuals who have severe cognitive deficits or psychiatric conditions rendering them unable to participate or benefit from the assessment.
- Individuals residing in residential care
- Individuals who are so physically impaired that they are unlikely to be able to participate in an active physical rehabilitation program
- Prior attendance at Falls Clinic with no new presenting medical conditions
- Medically unstable
