Service Description:

Our aim is to excel at the provision of an individualised, outcome oriented Hydrotherapy service to those with significant disability and illness.

We will work steadfastly in a collaborative manner to identify and achieve personal goals of clients using the Hydrotherapy medium. Safety considerations for clients are identified and communicated effectively. The outcomes of the clients hydrotherapy treatment are measured. All procedures and programs are based on benchmarking and current best practice principles.

Entry into the service is by referral only. Currently clients are admitted to the service by referral from their GP, their Physiotherapist (Private or Public) or other allied Health provider. Clients can access the Hydrotherapy facility via a number of other arms of Barwon Health including the Community Rehabilitation Centre, Community Health Centres and Inpatient Rehabilitation Centre.

All clients undergo an initial assessment, currently waiting up to a month to receive this at a cost of $9. Individual problems and therapy goals are identified with the client during the assessment process and a program is recommended based on the assessment findings.

Appropriate Hydrotherapy Intervention is considered and then the client is most likely fitted into one of three management streams, General Exercise, Supervised Exercise or Assessment Groups. Individual consultation is available for specific clients. Occasionally clients are referred on to other sections of the organisation for more intensive interdisciplinary management to more effectively address their needs.

The population of clients attending these groups are predominately 55 years or older, with over half of the overall population being 65 years and older. However we have a number of younger clients who attend for rehabilitation needs, some as young as 10 years old. Our clients are from Geelong, the Bellarine and Surfcoast areas as well as Golden Plains Shire.
