ABI/AOD ConsultancySecondary consultation and education for clinicians or agencies that are working with clients who have an Aquired Brain Injury (ABI) and drug use/abuse issues.
Addiction medicineAddiction specialist medical practitioners provide assistance to people with opiate addiction and complex medical and/or psychiatric presentations with withdrawal, opiate replacement therapy and psychiatric management. Referral can be made by community GPs for specialist advice. Sessional GPs with specialist training in the prescribing of opiate replacement therapies treat people with opiate dependence with methadone, buprenorphine or suboxone. Clients are referred to outreach workers, withdrawal nurses, allied health and dual diagnosis specialists (mental health and substance use) for further assessment and support.
AOD EducationProvision of education to organisations, schools and employers covering alcohol and drug use, its effects, harm minimisation and treatment options.
Care Co-ordinationProvision of care co-ordination for people at risk of serious harm from drug and/or alcohol use and mental health issues (such as anxiety, depression or PTSD), or who have had chronic difficulties reducing their use to safe levels.
Alcohol and Drug interventions including withdrawal support, case management, outreach, psychological therapy, linkage and referral is provided by specialist AOD clinicians with nursing or allied health (social workers, psychologists) qualifications. Has no set time limit.
Family focused / Inclusive services
Support, assistance and referral/linkages to the family members and loved ones of people affected by substance use. Services can include telephone support and face-to-face family sessions.
Forensic programsProvision of specialist AOD assessment & treatment to people with substance abuse problems coming into contact with the judicial system. Includes drug diversion, Credit Bail, Step Out, and treatment brokered as part of a person community corrections order (Counselling, consultancy and Continuuing Care, Withdrawal).
Group programsProvision of Alcohol and Drug interventions in a group format.
Individual Targeted InterventionProvision of Alcohol and Drug interventions on a one to one basis. Conducted by nursing, allied health (social workers, psychologists) or outreach clincians with specialist AOD training. Limited to a set number of planned sessions/contacts (up to 6) with specific client goals. Suitable for people who are not at significant risk of harm, or who can access generic counselling for other psychosocial issues. Includes harm reduction, drug education and relapse prevention.
Intake, linkage and single session programSpecialist AOD clincians provide an initial phone screening assessment to assist people work out what services they require. This may additionally include a single session to provide education, advice or linkage with other relevant services such as GPs and counselling or referral for specialist assessment and ongoing treatment.
Needle & Syringe Program (NSP)Provision of clean injecting equiptment, disposal of used equiptment and safe sex items from fixed site at 40 Little Malop St as well as Barwon Health Community Centres. Outreach worker provides advocacy, education on safe using, linkage to treatment and delivers equiptment off site if required. Emergency equiptment available after hours through emergency department Geelong Hospital.
Outreach ServicesOutreach clinicans have specialist training in alcohol and drug treatment, with a special focus on illicit substance use, including harm minimisation, overdose prevention and safer using education. Outreach workers assist people to access to clean injecting equiptment, use more safely and link to treatment services. They also provide advocacy and linkage to broader health and welfare services.
Supported accommodationTransitional housing in addition to outreach support and counselling is provided to people who are at risk of homelessness and require stable supported accommodation in order to successfully recover from substance dependence or abuse. Advice, referral and support regarding housing issues is also provided.
