1. Court Liaison provides a service at the Geelong Law Courts on a part-time basis ( .5 ).
2. Essentially, the needs of two groups are met. These are: firstly, that of the legal fraternity. Here, Court Liaison provides clinical information to legal parties regarding a person’s circumstances, and possible referral options within the community. The second group, is that of assisting community agencies (such as mental health teams), with information on legal processes regarding a person’s circumstances.
3. The primary target group in relation to clients, is those with a serious psychiatric illness. Currently, formal assessments by the Court Liaison Officer are at the discretion of the Magistrates. |
