Mental Health


Barwon Health provides specialised mental health services for the following:

  • Diagnosis, treatment and support of people of all ages who have a serious mental illness
  • Education and support of other health professionals and the community in the prevention, identification and early treatment of more common forms of mental illness and disorder
  • Education and clinical placement of medical, nursing and allied health students and practitioners in the field of mental health
  • Diagnosis, treatment, counselling and support of people of all ages who have problems of drug and alcohol use
  • Education and support of other health professionals and the community in the prevention, identification and early management of behaviours and social conditions which may lead to drug and alcohol use problems
  • Education and clinical placement of nursing and allied health students and practitioners in the field of drug and alcohol studies

These services are provided to people according to their clinical, cultural, and social needs in their homes, at local health centres and in specialist hospital and residential facilities. Services are organised in multi-disciplinary teams led by senior clinicians.
