Service Description:Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres operate in all regions across Australia. They provide support and co-ordinate respite services for carers, and provide an information and referral service to the community.

The program is funded by the Commonwealth Government and operated by Barwon Health Carer Respite and Carelink Services across the Barwon South West region of Victoria.

Barwon Health Carer Respite and Carelink Services is committed to supporting and maintaining the quality of life of carers and those for whom they care. We provide a range of flexible and innovative support services that respond to the individual needs of carers and the community.

Could you be a carer?
No one ever thinks it will happen to them, yet one in five households in Australia is providing support to a family member or friend. Carers can be parents, partners, brothers, sisters, friends or children of any age.

Carers often assist with tasks of daily living, including feeding, bathing, dressing, administering medication, as well as assistance with shopping, meal preparation and medical appointments. Carers also provide emotional support for the person they care for.

What is respite?
Caring can take a lot of time, energy and patience. Respite allows carers to take some time out for themselves. Respite can be in the home, the community or in a residenial facility.

Just as every caring situation is different, each person will have different needs for respite. Our Carer Support Workers help carers to explore their options and plan their respite needs.

Our services
Our Carer Support staff provides emotional support and guided referral to other services, including carer counselling as required. We also offer a range of programs and services that reflect the diversity for the carers we support.
