CANDLELIGHT REFLECTIONS FOR CANCER
10/21/2008

In the twilight hours of Sunday 5th October, more than 200 lanterns lit up the waterfront at Eastern Beach for the PathCare Messages of Love event.

Following a moving reflection by the Barwon Health Cancer Services Chaplain Russell Armstrong, lanterns bearing inscriptions supporting cancer patients, remembering loved ones lost and celebrating survivors were released in a picturesque display of love and hope.

The evening raised vital funds for Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre and cancer services.  Participants and their families and friends picnicked on the lawn to the mellow and soulful sounds of Geelong vocal group VIVA, and enjoyed the food and drink on offer from the Lions Club and Espresso Mobile Café.

The account of cancer survivor Barbara Baak, and heartfelt presentation of the night by Roxie Bennet provided encouragement and touching reflections on the battle many have, and will continue to face.  The night saw tears, laughter and love combine to provide a special way for the community to remember and support those affected by cancer.

The Geelong Hospital Appeal thanks major sponsor PathCare Pathology for their generous support, Roxie Bennett for hosting the night and the Lions Club of Geelong, VIVA and Espresso Café Mobile for their contributions.
