University Hospital Geelong extended visiting hours

Friday, 01 July 2016.

From 1 July 2016, visiting hours to general wards on University Hospital Geelong will be extended to 9am - 8pm.

The changes are in response to surveys conducted with patients, families and staff and a dedicated committee establishing procedures to liaise with patients about their needs at admission.

Barwon Health strives to create an environment that supports our patients. We recognise family and friends play an important role in the patient’s healing process and have standardised the visiting hours because it became confusing for visitors when patients moved from between wards within the hospital. Rest time is based on individual patient preference and the nursing staff’s assessment of a patient’s clinical condition.

Standardising visiting hours also means we can assist patients with whom they want participating in their care and how that participation will occur, while spreading demand for car parking around the hospital throughout the day.
