Service Description:

The major focus of this clinic is on injuries, contractures, burns, congenital deformities, lesions and hand injuries / conditions.

Patients requiring immediate surgical intervention should be referred to the Emergency Department or discussed with the Plastics registrar.

Scope:

This clinic does not provide services for the management of cosmetic conditions. Referrals are no longer accepted for the following:
• Abdominoplasty
• Breast reduction
• Breast augmentation
• Cosmetic rhinoplasty
• Cosmetic procedures
• Removal of tattoos
• Procedures with no CMBS codes

Referral Process:

• Complete surgical referral template (see link below to download), selecting service requested 8-Plastic Surgery

• All referrals must be faxed to outpatients

• All referral are triaged for suitability and urgency

• Provision of appropriate clinical information within the "reason for patient referral" section of the referral form is essential for accurate triaging and access to services.  This will also assist with arranging appropriate Allied Health assessments where necessary

• Both GP & patient will be notified of receipt of referral and expected waiting time for appointment

• Both GP & patient will be notified if a referral has been rejected

Reassessment Process:

For patients who require reassessment regarding planned surgery or planned appointments, a new referral should be faxed through. In order to facilitate access, the new referral must contain the following information:
• State the referral is an update for a current patient
• Date of original referral
• Reason for requesting a review of referral. Eg. deterioration in clinical condition, pathology

The GP will be notified of the outcome of the retriage process
