Building Developments

There are two major building developments currently underway at Barwon Health.

Relocation - Emergency Department

From 0615 hours on Tuesday 22 July 2008, the Geelong Hospital's Emergency Department is being relocated to phase one of the redevelopment.

Patients should attend triage in the new ED and access is now from the new entrance off Ryrie Street.

Geelong Hospital Emergency Department Redevelopment

Geelong Hospital's Emergency Department is currently undergoing a major redevelopment and phase one of the project is nearing completion, with stage two due for completion in 2009.

When completed, the redeveloped Emergency Department will be a much expanded facility covering a 2154 metre square area, which is more than double the size of the existing area of 1041 metres square. It will feature a new model of care with streaming of patient presentations to dedicated assessment areas including fast track, adult, paediatrics, resusitation and mental health.

Phase One

A public open day for phase one was held on Saturday 12 July 2008 with almost 300 people coming along to view the new facility. Patients and staff will move into the first phase on 22 July 2008.

Phase Two

The second phase of the Emergency Department redevelopment is scheduled for completion in early 2009.

Alan David Lodge

A brand new 108 bed facility at Grovedale, Alan David Lodge, is now

the new home of residents and staff previously based at Peter Street, John Robb House and Unit 6 at McKellar Centre.

Located at 382 Torquay Road in Grovedale, the site was selected based on a combination of factors including suitable land availability and because it is a projected population growth corridor for the area. Importantly, 78 residents of the 108 moved from John Robb House and Peter Street facilities located in the local area.

The $25million Alan David Lodge now provides 108 high care beds in a new, state of the art facility with modern energy efficient designs.
