Young patient Joshua Robb is a keen Cats fan but due to health reasons has never been able to make it to a live game.

However February 2011 saw young Joshua not only make it to his first live game at Etihad Stadium, but he also had the opportunity to run out with his football heroes as mascot for the game.

Eleven year old Nicholas Blackney has had a difficult journey in life. Nick was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was only a month old. PIPE BAND ENTERTAINS MCKELLAR RESIDENTS IN EVENING CONCERT
The Geelong Highland Pipeband have participated in the Gala Day Parade for many years with one member recently celebrating his 67th consecutive parade in this year's Gala event.

In celebration of this and in the lead up to the parade weekend the band members kindly provided a free concert to McKellar Residents in the new ampitheatre area recently opened this year.

The second annual Bronte’s Ball was an amazing success, raising $60,000 for the treatmet of kids with cancer at Geelong Hospital Children's Ward.

Held at the KD Stewart Centre at Deakin University Waurn Ponds on Saturday 2nd October, 270 guests enjoyed a live action, music, a three course meal and a moving tribute to six year-old Bronte Russell and her successful fight with cancer.

FACE OF THE APPEAL SUPPORTS FOOTY HEROES AS TEAM MASCOT

Ten year old Louie Hehir has had a tough start in life. Louie was born with chronic renal failure, and in 2005 Louie had a kidney transplant from a living donor, his maternal Grandmother.

Louie is an inspiration to many that meet him and as such was chosen to be team mascot for a day for the Geelong Football Club at the Geelong vs Sydney Swans game on 9th of May.

Young local student Laura Hickleton exceeded even her own expectations after raising $12,179 for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre recently.

Laura set about raising the funds as part of a school project and organised an auction night to help local cancer sufferers by raising money for vital equipment at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.

An exciting stage line up is confirmed for the 2009 Gala Day Parade and Family Fun Day, set to make the event bigger and better than ever.

Some of children's most populat performers are set to grace the parade and the stage including Wiggles characters Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword, along with Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants and friends! Exciting children's act The Workers and local group the Sweethearts are also set to bring life to the stage programme.

LITTLE PIPER LEE HELPS TO LAUNCH THE 2009 GEELONG HOSPITAL APPEAL

Little Piper Lee has had a difficult journey in her short five and a half years. In December 2006, the young Belmont girl was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour in her neck that left her fighting for her life.

Thanks to the Geelong Hospital, Piper's on the road to recovery.

GALA DAY BRINGS COLOUR TO THE STREETS OF GEELONG
Wintry conditions failed to stop the 92nd G-Force Gala Day Parade and Family Fun Day on Saturday 22nd November which saw thousands of children and families take to the streets of Geelong to watch the colour and excitement of the parade featuring floats, dancers, children's characters and special guests.

CANDLELIGHT REFLECTIONS FOR CANCER
In the twilight hours of Sunday 5th October, more than 200 lanterns lit up the waterfront at Eastern Beach for the PathCare Messages of Love event.

Following a moving reflection by the Barwon Health Cancer Services Chaplain Russell Armstrong, lanterns bearing inscriptions supporting cancer patients, remembering loved ones lost and celebrating survivors were released in a picturesque display of love and hope.

FIRST GEELONG HOSPITAL APPEAL RAISES OVER $900,000!
The first Geelong Hospital Appeal Giving Weekend, held over the Queens Birthday weekend in June, has seen the Geelong community unite to raise approximately $15,000. CHOCOLATE INDULGENCE FOR A CAUSE
A day of delicious decadence was held on May 30 to raise money for the Geelong Hospital Appeal.  The 2008 Hot Chocolate Day has raised over $15,000 to date with money continuing to be received. Approximately 19 schools and 50 groups and businesses warmed up for the cause by holding their own hot chocolate gatherings. All got into the spirit of the day with some coming up with creative activities such as serving cold chocolate (chocolate milk) and having a casual dress day.   more...

EASTER HUNT RAISES MONEY FOR THE KIDS
The Our Women Our Children Volunteers hosted the third annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, attracting a crowd of hundreds to the Bellarine Estate Winery. Families enjoyed their picnics and were entertained with stalls, music, rides, craft activities, drumming workshop and of course the Easter Egg Hunt.   more...

Geelong’s Gala Day tradition is set to see some major changes in 2008 to allow the entire community to be involved in the iconic event. Celebrating it’s 92nd year, making it one of Australia’s oldest parades, the Gala Day Parade and Family Fun day is making the move to a Saturday, enabling people who may have otherwise missed out in taking part because of their work or school commitments during the week, to get along and enjoy a fun day out.
